Airports Authority of India posts Rs 6,522 crore profit in FY26; total reserves and surplus rise to Rs 27,890.17 crore

New Delhi [India], August 24 (ANI): Airports Authority of India (AAI) reported a net profit of Rs 6,522.37 crore for the financial year ending March 31, 2026, marking a decline from the Rs 7,233.28 crore recorded in the previous financial year, according to the financial statements of AAI.
Despite the moderation in bottom-line numbers, the overall financial footing of AAI strengthened during the period. Total reserves and surplus expanded significantly, climbing to Rs 27,890.17 crore as of March 31, 2026, compared to Rs 23,324.51 crore recorded at the end of the previous fiscal year.
As per AAI, from the net profit generated during the financial year, the authority earmarked Rs 852.39 crore towards an interim dividend and recommended a final dividend payout of Rs 1,104.32 crore.
In addition to shareholder returns, substantial amounts were retained to bolster capital buffers. The authority transferred Rs 1,826.26 crore into the Airport Development Reserve and allocated another Rs 2,739.40 crore to the General Reserve.
The balance in the Airport Development Reserve climbed to Rs 12,689.95 crore from Rs 10,863.69 crore in the preceding year. At the same time, the General Reserve expanded to Rs 15,181.12 crore from Rs 12,441.72 crore.
On the capital and liability side, the equity capital contribution from the Government of India stayed constant at Rs 656.56 crore. Long-term borrowings contracted to Rs 2,020.03 crore at the close of the fiscal year from Rs 2,171.31 crore a year earlier.
Meanwhile, current maturities of long-term debt increased to Rs 388.35 crore from Rs 257.15 crore, while short-term borrowings remained nil across both comparative periods.
Trade payables for goods and services stood higher at Rs 925.12 crore against Rs 664.39 crore in the prior year. Total long-term provisions reached Rs 7,795.38 crore compared to Rs 7,054.31 crore, whereas short-term provisions settled at Rs 11,196.36 crore against Rs 11,875.45 crore.
Gross provision for taxation stood at Rs 4,560 crore under long-term heads and Rs 8,048.67 crore under short-term heads.
Asset expansion continued over the course of the fiscal period. The gross block of tangible assets grew to Rs 48,381.82 crore as of March 31, 2026. The net block increased to Rs 17,029.46 crore from Rs 15,828.11 crore a year ago, reflecting ongoing capital expenditure in aviation infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, aprons, buildings, and plant and equipment.
According to the disclosures in the financial statement, "operational profit moderated during the year," yet the authority sustained its balance sheet health by maintaining a conservative debt structure while expanding its core physical asset base across the country. (ANI)
