New Delhi [India], August 23 (ANI): The Taekwondo contingent of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) delivered an outstanding performance at the 5th Indian Taekwondo Kyorugi National Championship 2026-27, held at Mahalunge, Pune, from 16-21 August, winning a total of five medals -- two Gold, one Silver and two Bronze.
A ten-member CISF team, comprising four women and six male players, represented the force at the championship, training at the force's concentration centre at CGBS, Mahipalpur, as per a press release.
Kanishka of Uttarakhand clinched the Gold medal in the Under-46 kg category, continuing her rise through the national circuit since joining the CISF Taekwondo team in January 2026. Saina Khan of Uttar Pradesh won the Gold medal in the Under-62 kg category, capping a strong international season that included participation at the Under-21 World Taekwondo Championship 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, a Silver medal at the 2nd Vietnam Open Taekwondo Championship 2026, and a Bronze medal at the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesian Open Championship 2026.
Riya, also from Uttar Pradesh, secured the Silver medal in the Under-67 kg category, having joined the CISF Taekwondo team in January 2026. Ritik of Haryana won the Bronze medal in the Under-80 kg category.
Pankaj, also of Haryana, secured the Bronze medal in the Over-87 kg category, rounding off the contingent's medal tally at the Championship.
The performance of the Taekwondo contingent at Pune adds to CISF's growing medal tally in combat sports and reflects the Force's sustained focus on nurturing sporting talent through structured training at its concentration centres.
