CJP calls for peaceful march in Delhi on September 5, accuses Centre of "failing to honour" July 25 commitments

CJP calls for peaceful march in Delhi on September 5, accuses Centre of "failing to honour" July 25 commitments

New Delhi [India], August 24 (ANI): The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a nationwide call for a peaceful protest march in New Delhi on September 5, accusing the Government of India of failing to honour the commitments made to young people on July 25, following which nationwide youth protests were withdrawn.
According to a press release, the peaceful march on September 5 will begin at India Gate and proceed towards the New Delhi Police Headquarters. It will be led by the families of deceased NEET victims and victims of police brutality, with students, youth organisations and young citizens from across the country expected to join.
The decision was unanimously taken at a meeting of the CJP national working committee, which reviewed the progress made by the Centre and BJP/NDA-ruled states in fulfilling the assurances given to the youth of the country.
A month after those commitments were publicly made, the CJP national committee expressed serious concern over the lack of concrete action and questioned whether the government intends to honour its word, the release said, adding that instead of implementing what was promised, the Union Government has "delayed action, hidden behind technicalities and avoided giving clear commitments, even before the Supreme Court of India".
On August 18, the Supreme Court repeatedly asked the Union Government to provide a list of FIRs registered across the country so that the Court could consider quashing them together, at one go, making the commitment easier to fulfil. Yet, the Union Government refused to give a clear commitment to do so. The written assurance promised by the Union Government to CJP also remains pending.
According to the release, CJP said the continued delay has left the youth of the country with no option but to return to democratic and peaceful protest.
"Our patience cannot be mistaken for weakness. Our good faith cannot become an opportunity for the Government to betray the young people of this country," the CJP's national working committee said.
CJP said the movement represents the growing anger of a generation that trusted the assurances made by the Union Government and withdrew a nationwide protest in good faith.
"On July 25, solemn promises were made publicly at a joint press conference. The young generation trusted those commitments. The nationwide movement was withdrawn in good faith. A government cannot take the trust of an entire generation, use it to send young people home, and then quietly retreat from its own word. We will not accept this betrayal," the CJP said.
The CJP said the families who lost their children will lead the march, alongside victims of police brutality.
"The families who lost their children will walk at the front. Victims of police brutality will walk beside them. Behind them will walk a generation demanding only one thing from its Government: KEEP YOUR WORD," the outfit said.
CJP has appealed to all young Indians, students, youth organisations and student organisations to gather in large numbers at India Gate on September 5 and participate peacefully in the march, the release said.
The CJP reiterated that the protest would remain peaceful and democratic, and said the Government must honour the commitments made to the youth of the country in both letter and spirit. (ANI)
