CM Yogi highlights state's textile heritage, industrial potential at UP Textile Conclave in Lucknow

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 8 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday highlighted the state's rich textile heritage and industrial potential, saying Uttar Pradesh has skilled manpower, a large market, industry, entrepreneurship and the world's youngest workforce.
He said textiles produced in India, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, had historically been in demand in markets across the world.
Addressing the two-day 'UP Textile Conclave-2026', Uttar Pradesh CM said, "In the past, the textiles that India used to produce, especially those made in Uttar Pradesh, were in demand in markets around the world, in the cultures of Rome and Greece.”
The Chief Minister said Varanasi's silk sarees, Bhadohi's carpets, Lucknow's chikankari, and Kanpur's textile, leather and industrial manufacturing ecosystem reflect Uttar Pradesh's rich heritage and industrial capabilities.
He also highlighted the potential for technical textiles and sports goods in Meerut.
“Whether it's the silk sarees of Varanasi, the carpets of Bhadohi, the chikankari of Lucknow, the textile, leather and industrial manufacturing ecosystem of Kanpur, or the possibilities of technical textiles along with sports goods in Meerut, these are not just clusters of Uttar Pradesh but the heritage of Uttar Pradesh's textiles and different phases of Uttar Pradesh's industrial capability,” he further said.
The Chief Minister further said Uttar Pradesh has the necessary resources and ecosystem to strengthen its textile sector.
"We have skill, we have human resources, and we also have the country's largest market. We have industry, we have entrepreneurship, and we also have the world's youngest workforce,” CM Yogi said.
"Over the past 6 years, there has been an increase of approximately 56 percent in the export of textiles, apparel, and handicrafts from the state," he said.
He also held a meeting with leading textile and apparel entrepreneurs.

The two-day UP Textile Conclave-2026 (UP-TEX 2026) is being held from September 8 to 9 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow and was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi. (ANI)
