Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 17(ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said prayers were offered for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's well-being on his birthday and announced a month-long program to mark his 25 years of public service.
Speaking to reporters, CM Sarma said, "Today, accompanied by our state president and MLA, we prayed for the well-being of the Prime Minister. This evening, households across Assam will light earthen lamps. Every home will be illuminated by these lamps, and prayers will be offered in temples... The state government has also announced a month-long program to mark the Prime Minister's glorious 25 years of public service. We will also organise camps across the state where people can voice their grievances, and we will strive to resolve them."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was born in 1950 to Hiraba and Damodardas Modi in Vadnagar in Gujarat's Mehsana district. On May 26, 2014, he took the oath as the Prime Minister of India, becoming the first Prime Minister to be born after India attained Independence.
Earlier in the day, President Droupadi Murmu also extended birthday greetings to Prime Minister Modi, referring to his 25 years of public service and his contribution to good governance and inclusive development.
Meanwhile, in Varanasi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister Chirag Paswan and BJP State President and Union Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.
Rajnath Singh said the leaders gathered at Kashi Vishwanath to offer prayers for the Prime Minister's long and healthy life and for the realisation of the goal of a Viksit Bharat.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “Today marks the birthday of PM Narendra Modi. On this occasion, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister Chirag Paswan, BJP State President and MoS Pankaj Chaudhary gathered here at Kashi Vishwanath to offer prayers.”
Rajnath Singh said the rituals were duly performed and prayers were offered for Modi’s long and healthy life and the realisation of the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat.’
“The rituals were duly performed, and we prayed to the god to grant Prime Minister Modi a long and healthy life and to enable the realisation of the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat.’ It was with this very purpose that we came here," he added.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the occasion was a matter of pride and good fortune and that prayers were offered for Modi's good health and longevity.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is organising the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' across the country from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Modi's birthday, with a series of service-oriented programmes and public outreach initiatives. (ANI)
