Malaysia announces temporary airspace closure, flight retimings ahead of 69th National Day

Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia], August 24 (ANI): In conjunction with Malaysia's 69th National Day celebrations, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has announced temporary airspace closures within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area to facilitate the National Day Flypast 2026.
According to Malaysia Airlines, these closures will result in the retiming of selected Malaysia Airlines flights arriving at and departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
Affected passengers will be notified via their registered contact details and are encouraged to check their latest flight status on the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app before travelling to the airport.
With the upcoming school holidays and peak travel period from August 26 to September 6, passengers departing from KLIA Terminal 1 are advised to arrive at least four (4) hours before their scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for airport procedures, the airline stated.
Malaysia's National Day, celebrated annually on August 31, commemorates the Federation of Malaya's independence from British rule in 1957.
Last year, the High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi hosted a reception to commemorate the 68th National Day of Malaysia. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law & Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, Arjun Ram Meghwal.
According to the High Commission of Malaysia, New Delhi, the celebration brought together a distinguished gathering of guests, including representatives from Indian federal ministries, the diplomatic corps, international organisations, Friends of Malaysia in New Delhi, and members of the Malaysian diaspora.
The evening commenced with the national anthems of Malaysia and India, setting a respectful and celebratory tone. This was followed by remarks from Dato' Muzafar Shah Mustafa, High Commissioner of Malaysia to India, and the Chief Guest, Arjun Ram Meghwal. Both speakers highlighted the deep-rooted bilateral relations between Malaysia and India, and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing positive initiatives, diplomatic cooperation, and cultural exchange.
The ceremony underscored the importance of strengthening diplomatic ties, fostering regional development, and enhancing global peace and prosperity. It was a celebration not only of Malaysia's national pride, but also of the enduring friendship and shared values between the two nations.
Guests were treated to vibrant cultural performances, including traditional Malaysian music and dance by the Sabah Tourism Board Cultural Troupe, adding colour and rhythm to the evening, the High Commission stated.
One of the most anticipated highlights of the night was the Malaysian culinary showcase, featuring authentic delicacies such as chicken satay, steamed glutinous rice with beef rendang, ayam masak merah, curry puffs, nona manis, and pandan-flavoured cake. These were lovingly prepared by the members of PERWAKILAN (Ladies Association of the Embassy), offering guests a taste of Malaysia's rich and diverse food heritage.
The High Commission extends its heartfelt thanks to all who joined in making the occasion memorable. The evening stood as a testament to Malaysia-India friendship, and a celebration of shared aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous future. (ANI)
