Morgan Rogers reveals childhood Chelsea connection, talks with boss Alonso ahead of Premier League opener

Morgan Rogers reveals childhood Chelsea connection, talks with boss Alonso ahead of Premier League opener

London [UK], August 24 (ANI): Chelsea midfielder Morgan Rogers, set to begin his journey with the Blues in the Premier League clash against Fulham, revealed his connection with the club as a kid, and is excited and optimistic about his experience with the illustrious club.
Ahead of the season, Chelsea broke the bank for Morgan, signing him for a record-breaking 117 million pounds from Aston Villa, making him the most expensive British signee of all time. Morgan scored in Aston Villa's 3-0 win over SC Freiburg in the Europa League final and was named as the competition's 'Player of the Season' with three goals and five assists. He made 85 appearances for the club from 2024-26, scoring 21 goals.
Speaking to JioStar, Chelsea's newest signee revealed that he used to play at the club's training ground as a kid.
"I played here at Chelsea's Cobham Training Ground as a kid, and every time I come back, it feels great to be here. It is a fantastic place to train. It has everything a player needs to improve and get the most out of their game. So yeah, it is really nice," said Morgan.
On starting his journey with the club, he said that everyone is aware of the size and stature of the club, and he feels excited for the journey.
"I do not think I need to say much about Chelsea. Everyone knows the size and stature of the club. I am excited about the direction the club is heading in, and I want to be part of that journey. I feel I can fit in well here, and I hope it will be a positive experience for both the club moving forward and me," he said.
The midfielder also opened up on the new club manager, Xabi Alonso, a FIFA World Cup-winning Spain legend who won UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid and Liverpool the top-flight league titles with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Morgan said that his style fits his way of seeing and playing the game.
"I have had a few conversations with Xabi Alonso, and it was important for me to understand how he works and what he expects. His style fits perfectly with how I see the game and how I want to play. I want to express myself freely on the pitch, and knowing that he supports that was a big reason for me to come here," he signed off. (ANI)
